Hello, dear student! How is school going?
Earlier this year, the Prime Project went on a physical outreach to a secondary school in Ibadan. The theme of the outreach was "LAYING A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR A GREAT FUTURE."
In this series of articles, we intend to share some valuable insights on this theme that will help you prepare adequately for your own future. Ready?! Let's dive in!
“Laying a solid foundation” is a phrase that's clearly associated with building. But how can laying the foundation of a building be likened to one's preparation for the future?
This brings us to these questions:
1. What are you building?
You are building your future, now.
The strength and depth of the foundation laid determines which kind of structure can be built on it. It also determines whether the structure will be able to last.
In the same way, the things you are doing now, or neglecting to do, are contributing to who you will become in the future. The habits you are forming; your actions and inactions are already shaping your future.
2. What kind are you building? Great or mediocre? Good or bad?
Ask yourself: “With how I am living my life now, what kind of foundation am I laying? What kind of future am I building for myself?”
Take note, dear young one, the things you are doing now, good or bad, are shaping your future positively or negatively.
3. Why are you building?
What is the right motive behind preparing rightly for the future?
1. To honour and please God.
God, your Creator, has given you the opportunity to be alive, a sound mind, talents and all other opportunities such as education. God expects us to give our best in all our endeavours and produce a maximum output from all he has blessed us with. This requires adequate preparation.
2. To be able to positively impact others.
The measure of a life well lived is not in how much you acquire for yourself, but how rich you are towards God, and how much you are a blessing to others. Every good thing planted in you by God is not primarily for you, but to benefit people around you. Therefore, you need to prepare so that you do not fail to impact positively the lives God has ordained you to impact.
Till we meet in part 2 of this series, remember that when it comes to your future, "it is not enough to build, but to build a structure which stands on a solid foundation."
