This article is the second part of "Sex in Adolescence: What is true and what isn't?", you can check the first part here.
7. "If I don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend now, I'm missing out."
That's not true. God's word declares that there's a time for everything. Do you believe that, or that anything can be done at any time? Can the university syllabus be given to you to read on your own, when you have not learnt the basics in secondary school or gained admission?
The truth is, as exciting as it may seem, now in adolescence is not the time for romantic relationships. They will come later, and you'll enjoy them in God's plan for you. Rushing into it brings mistakes and regrets that are avoidable, just like a 5 year old clamouring for the keys to his dad's car.
Now is the time to be reconciled with God, discover your purpose with Him, and build healthy friendships with both boys and girls around you! Why start trial and error when you are not ready for the commitment of a sexually intimate relationship, and marriage(God's design)?!
8. "Girls' bodies are merely objects that I can use to give me pleasure."
No. People of the opposite gender are not just objects.
They are whole human beings, created by God and precious to Him. Do not objectify them for your selfish desires. God's anger comes upon people for sins such as these.
9. "The boy/girl I have a crush on is the only person that can make me happy."
There's a way your emotional attraction to a person may make you feel you cannot do without the person. But it's not true.
Looking at it from the broad picture, in a few months, that crush will fade, and you can cope without the person. Rather than letting it distract you, place that crush before God and allow Him help you maintain the honour He has put on your body.
10. "Having sex or allowing my body to be another person's pleasure device is the proof that I love someone."
Again, this is far from the truth. The love of God for you is the true definition of love. And His love was shown in giving up His Son to save us from our sins, and bring us back to Him. Anyone who isn't willing to honour your body with the honour God put on it, does not love you in the right way.
True love is sacrificial, not pleasure seeking.
Finally, precious friend, remember that sharing your body with another person, or gaining pleasure from another person's body, is like a fruit not to be eaten unripe.
Yes, God created your body to be able to function sexually. But this function is to be explored at the right time, and with the right person. God knows what's best for you, and it's best to wait for His timing - after marriage!
Engaging in premarital sex or any sexually stimulating activity might look sweet at first, like a "ripe fruit." But in the end it tastes bitter, just like biting into an unripe mango or sour orange. It leaves regret, pain, and effects you have to live with long after the moment is gone.
Even if you have shared your body cheaply with another person and you feel guilty or dirty, remember that Jesus Christ is willing to forgive you if you abandon your sin and turn to Him. Trust Him for grace to honour Him from now on! Send us a mail via theprimeprojectnigeria@gmail.com if you are making this decision!
