Now, let's move to today's matter, shall we? Not all subjects should be studied in the same way. A study method that works for Mathematics may not work for Literature. The best results come when you use the right method for each subject. For example, Biology may need more reading and understanding, while Accounting may need more practice. You will do better when you set study goals, check your progress, and change your method when needed.
To benefit maximally from this article, we advise you read it calmly and carefully to understand how to excel by approaching your subjects rightly - whether it's Arts, Commercial or Science subjects.
1. Approaching the Study of Calculation Subjects
Calculation-based subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry calculations, and Accounting require reasoning, accuracy, and repeated practice. These subjects are not mastered by reading alone. You need to understand the concept, know how the formula works, and then solve many questions until the method becomes familiar. Homework and practice linked to classroom work are especially useful when they are regular and followed by feedback. The right approach is to begin from the basics, practise systematically, and learn from mistakes. Do not be discouraged by your errors. In calculation subjects, mistakes are part of the learning process. Regular practice also helps build speed, which is especially important for timed examinations.
2. Approaching the Study of Other Science Subjects
Subjects such as Biology, Agricultural Science, and parts of Chemistry are content-heavy. They require correct scientific terms, understanding of processes, and the ability to explain clearly what happens and why it happens.
The right approach is to study for understanding, not just memorization.
Use diagrams where necessary, practise drawing and labeling them correctly.
Learn definitions and keywords, and revise regularly so that large volumes of content remain fresh in your memory.
Practise trying to remember your facts, and recheck them at regular intervals. This is especially useful because it strengthens your remembrance over time.
3. Approaching the Study of Arts Subjects -
Arts subjects such as Literature-in-English, Government, CRS and Languages reward reading, interpretation, expression, and critical thinking.
Focus more on understanding the texts and ideas, not merely glancing through them. Strong performance in these subjects depends on wide reading, careful comprehension, and structured writing.
The right approach is to read the recommended literature texts carefully, practise writing your answers in a clear structure, and support your points with relevant examples, quotations, events, or references where appropriate, eg in History or Government. Work more on your expression, because in arts subjects, clarity of thought must be matched by clarity of writing.
4. Approaching the Study of Commercial Subjects
Commercial subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc combine theory, calculation, and practical application. Students must understand the concepts, but you must also connect those concepts to everyday business life. This makes commercial subjects different from subjects that are purely theoretical or purely numerical.
The best approach is to balance your theory with practice, learn the key definitions, solve calculations regularly, and use real-life examples to make the ideas easier to understand and remember. Like other subjects, commercial subjects benefit from regular revision, practice, and feedback.
